Life Events and Family Medical Leave AcT

Typically, you are only allowed to make changes to your health insurance coverage during Open Enrollment, which is usually in October for the upcoming year. You may qualify for changes throughout the year if you have a qualifying life event. Some examples of a qualifying life event are:

  • Birth of a child or adoption
  • Death of a household member
  • Marriage or divorce
  • Change in residence affecting available healthcare coverage
  • Loss of coverage

You have 30 days from the date of the life event to make changes to your existing plan. Please contact your HR Representative for more information or to help you with your life event.

Are your beneficiaries up to date?

It is a good idea to check your beneficiaries once a year, but especially important if you have any of the above life events to ensure that your beneficiaries listed are still correct on your HSA plan, life insurance plans and 401(k) plan!

To check your beneficiaries, use the following:

Company provided Life and AD&D: tggroupbenefits.bswift.com

HSA & FSA accounts: wexinc.com

401K account www.mykplan.com

Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA):

The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides qualifying team members up to 12 work weeks of unpaid leave in a 12-month period for serious health care, parental leave before, during and after the birth of a child, or to care for an employee's spouse, child or parent with a serious health condition. There are also different types of Military Leave. If you meet any of these conditions, or have questions about how FMLA works, please contact your local HR rep.
